29 and 30 September 2025 (sun and cloud, mild)

We were up early today and had a chat to Georgina before having a cup of tea with Peg and then a leisurely breakfast.

The sun was shining so we got a couple of loads of washing done and hung on the line, chatting to Peg the whole time.

Had some lunch and then Pete and I went for about a 6km walk round the neighbourhood. It was cloudy by now and the perfect temperature.

By the time we got back, the washing was mostly dry, despite it only being a high of 16C today with not much wind. The clothes look so much better having been through a good washing machine!

Peg made us a delicious pan of corned beef Scouse stew, which was especially lovely of her considering she herself is vegetarian.

We chatted and laughed some more and I retired to bed at 8pm and Pete and Peg stayed up til 10.30pm, still chatting.

Woke this morning at 7am after a lovely sleep.

Folded some washing and made a cuppa and did a light balance routine.

Peg joined us and we had some breakfast followed by a really nice facetime call with Dad which was hilarious.

Both showered and threw some washing on, before walking to Parkgate to meet our friends, Jane, Joanne and Little Jane.

Met them at The Elephant cafe, a lovely little place and sat at the same table we'd met them at seven years ago.

They all looked great and although that time has passed, they are still the same lovely people that I used to knock around with and Julia has known since the 80's.

Over coffee, we discussed all manner of topics, including renovating, which Little Jane has been up to since 2022.

Jane and Jo have an allotment and have gone into beekeeping.

They gave us a tiny pot of honey from their hives.

Chatted for two hours, before arranging another meeting next Monday.

Also arranged to see Little Jane's renovations sometime this week.

After the walk back to Pegs, we ate lunch and I received an e-mail from Andy about a call tonight to arrange a get together.

Did some blogging before shooting out to do some grocery shopping.

To "Sainsburys" we go...so upmarket.

Had a big shop and one of the items I was looking for was "Club" biscuits. I used to love them when I lived here. A nice chunky chocolate biscuit. Not anymore. Some thin, half the size substitute. Haven't tried it yet, but will comment when I have.

Dinner was fresh fish, chips and peas. Delicious. Followed by gluten free chocolate cake. Even more delicious.

More chat and finally retired at 10pm.

  3. Sounds like you are really enjoying Liverpool and catching up with everyone. Love the country pubs and the old buildings. Will you manage to get to a soccer game? Are you cycling to London or taking the train?

    1. Yes we plan to cycle to London. Unfortunately no football game for us as Liverpool have no home games until the 19th and we'll be in London by then. Probably for the best as no doubt the tickets will be extremely expensive.
