27 and 28 September 2025 (light rain, sun and cloud on 27th)
Took a stroll around West Kirby just checking out small changes that have occurred over the years.
A new Aldi supermarket has appeared on Bridge road. The amount of cafes in town is ridiculous. Three in a row on Banks road and numerous others. Went to check out Morrisons supermarket where we bought some good deals for dinner and also some lunch.
Julia found some great gluten free food in there which made her extremely happy, so I'm picking the next cycling trip we do, will be in the UK.
Back at Lecky’s, we talked the afternoon away and as the temperature dropped, we settled in for dinner, which was very nice, but all of us found that we had too much. Eyes bigger than our stomachs. It's been a long time since that happened!
At 7.30pm we said goodbye to Asha who was catching the train back to London, where she lives.
She's a good girl and it was nice to see her again.
Began watching a film on tele, but by 10pm we were knackered, so decided to call it a day.

Up about 7am. After a cuppa and some blogging, we slowly began to clear our bedding from the lounge and pack our bags ready for later. Grabbed some breakfast and chatted as the day began to improve. Lecky woke and joined us for a chat, before suggesting a walk around the marine lake.
Good job they have the lifeguards there, that water looks really dangerous.
Julia and I used to live in a Victorian flat on the prom, so we grabbed a photo outside, before wandering around the lake.
The tide was out and the mud was prominent, but because we were on an elevated path...no problem. There were however people making their way over to Hilbre Island and I was waiting to see who would get stuck... because when you do...it's a bloody nightmare.
Lovely, but cool walk, stopping to pat a lovely American bulldog puppy of fourteen weeks.
Back to the flat where Julia and I put our mudguards back on the bikes, having forgotten to at the airport. All loaded up, we bade Alexis farewell and headed off to Little Neston on the Wirral Way. For those who are not familiar with this name, it is a 30 km old railway line, cycle trail. It has room for cyclists, walkers and a bridle path for horses. It was established in 1973 after the line had closed down in the 1960's. I spent many a good time on the Wirral Way and its surroundings, exploring the various trails and hideaways and taking in the spectacular views of the River Dee and the Welsh hills.
The riding was idyllic. The weather perfect by now for cycling and the scenery magnificent. After about an hour, we reached Little Neston, the home of my second mum, my Auntie Peggy.
Peg has lived on Greenfields Drive for over 45 years. When my Uncle Andrew died last year, they had just moved up the road to a smaller house, which they then renovated. It looks amazing, and so did Peg when we arrived at her doorstep. She is eighty seven but looks nothing like it.
The rest of the day we spent catching up, before driving to Chester at 5pm, to my cousin Ian’s and his wife Rachel. They have two kids, Ollie (16) and Emily (13). Enjoyed a lovely homecooked meal (lamb roast) and brilliant conversation over a few hours, before returning to Peg’s for a lovely sleep.

That brings a few memories back, on the Worrall way you would have passed The devils cave. we used to camp there in 1944 got busses from Woodside. Great days living on beans and buttes and making tea from the little stream.
ReplyDeleteI get the feeling you are enjoying your visit to that part of the UK ,which is understandable with familiar faces and familiar surroundings. Must be quite nostalgic . But even without that it does look quite an attractive area to visit anyway and you must be pleases with how Liverpool is looking.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the update.
We got one good day of weather this week that actually felt like Spring ,Tuesday to be precise but rain pretty much every other day , at least for part of the day,so over it. But that’s Spring in Taranaki for ya,especially early Spring. It will get better( I bloody hope!)
We won’t talk about Liverpool FC this week
Looks like you have found your happy place. Enjoy! We're in.Takapuna at mo, only one day of rain for us, and that's today!
