17 August 2025 (light hazy cloud, hot) 22km

Well...Got the whole mix last night, plus more. Firstly, different people around us generally talking.

Then we had two lots of Germans, either side.

One, a family, decided to take shifts.

Firstly the old man, then the girls til after midnight.

The other German was a young cyclist travelling on his own. Got on his phone from 9.45pm until 12.45am.

Don't know who he was talking to but for the last hour and a half, he was weeping and sobbing into the phone.

When I told Julia this morning she said "Did you get up and ask him if he was okay and what was wrong?"

"No" I said. But I did say, Jesus Christ man, will you bloody well shut up!

The Italian stallion pitched next to us also yelled out, "Silence!" Never works though if you yell that and then offer him a piece of pizza. Doesn't have that authority....!!!

Then the first German is coughing his lungs up throughout the night. The cough where he almost suffocated himself though was a doozy, it even woke Ju up. “Bloody hell, just die quietly will ya” she mumbled before rolling over and going back to sleep.

Woke at 5.06am and over for an early cold water wake up shower. Great stuff. Back for pack up and on the road at about 6.40am.

Riding to Omis this morning, but we only got as far as Sumpetar where we were bang on 7am opening time for a Tommy supermarket.

Breakfast in the bag and just down the road, we spied a kids playground, with seats and table. But first, into that beautiful water.

As we were eating, a young woman and two kids came down, for a play and a swim. Her name was Francesca. Thirty years old and soon to be a mother of six. She was so cool with her kids and it was great talking to her.

She's Croatian but lives in Augsburg, Germany. Her mum and dad have a house here and she loves Croatia. All the family are doctors.

We left her and were really enjoying the coastal ride as at that time it still wasn't really busy. We were warming up again though and the beautiful little coves we were riding by were just too tempting with their super clear water and little white stones.

So we pulled over for another swim and this spot had the bonus of these nifty little changing cubicles they have here plus a cold shower. Big bonus, being only 9am, there was hardly anybody else here.

Very cool low cost changing rooms.

We dragged ourselves away an hour later after two swims, but must only have ridden a km, when we spied a very tiny camp, also right on the beach.

This one only caters for eight max, with a location to die for.

Euro= 27....but, full sun.

For one day we can do it as we plan to go back to our little spot round the corner.

After pottering around the camp, putting up the inner and throwing all our belongings inside, it was in for another swim before picking up some lunch and back to where we were this morning, for our fifth swim of the day. We found a shady spot to sit and eat lunch and chill between swims.

By 2.30pm we were losing shade and the sky was looking ominous over the hills so we cycled back to camp to maybe put the fly on the tent.

As the afternoon wore on, the wind got up. There was a storm warning which thankfully didn't arrive, but the wind was blowing and the camp is all stone and dust. We hadn't put the fly on because when we set up, we didn't think we'd need to, consequently the dust came through the mesh of the inner tent and it was filthy. The wind was still blowing though so we found a nice shaded spot between the owner's house and a hedge where we could get wifi and investigated flights home. Once the wind subsided about 6pm, I gave the tent and our gear a good wipe down.

During the afternoon, we watched as more and more campers arrived, all stirring up the dust with each arrival.

We had just eaten dinner and it was about 8pm when the 11th group, a French family with a reservation arrived, but couldn't get past our tent, to get into their corner spot.

Not our fault either. An Italian couple, who had now gone for a walk, was parked too far forward, so the Frenchies couldn't get in.

Ju here: We told them we would move onto a paved tile covered verandah if the owners were ok with that. But the owners were nowhere to be found so we just moved there anyway.

It was actually a much better spot for us as it wasn't full of dust and stones and was a nice smooth, albeit very hard, surface. We also weren't subjected to the huge amounts of dust swirling around.

The Frenchies were very grateful and asked if we'd eaten and we stupidly said we had, because then he starts cooking and my word, it smelt sooo good!

He's obviously one of these men who enjoy cooking, and made his wife and daughter a calamari paella. We had to zip ourselves in our tent so they couldn't see us drooling.

We did a lot of flight research today and have come up with a plan. We plan to fly out of Corfu to Liverpool, catch up with friends and rellies before cycling down to London to catch up with Steve, another good friend before flying out to NZ. We just need a night to sleep on it and get out heads round the cost of it. Back to Pete.

As I write, there is a DJ, who has been blasting out the beats since 5pm. Julia has put her money on him finishing at 10pm.

If it's true to form, I'm betting on 2am.

  3. Wow that Croatian women was doing well considering she was just about to have 6 kids! She must have been huge ! Is that sextuplets?
Anyway I take from today’s blog there was less cycling and more swimming going on ,but can’t blame you as it looks nice and better fir escaping the heat . But enough slacking you need to get going if you are going to make Corfu. Take it you are going to cycle all the way there and will you go via Meteora ?
Do tell what the cost of those flights will be if you decide to go the route you are talking of. At least doing that you will get the chance to go see a quality football team in west London . You know who I’m talking about 😀⚽️🇳🇮

  4. A nice easy day, apart from all those noisy people at night. Those places must have been a haven for people with money years ago, I wonder where they go now ? A boat would be great there. Well done getting your plane sorted. just enjoy the rest of your time resting and swimming, I was going to say and Sun but thought twice.
