1 August 2025 (misty morning, clearing to sun and clouds, warm. Slight rainfall in evening) 46km

Three words for last night's camp at Bohiniska Bistrica.

Crowded, expensive and noisy.

Last night we had three young guys outside, moving around the tent talking so loudly, that even Julia was going to go out and have a word.

This is at 10.39pm.

I'd already told them twice to move away after they'd been that close they tripped on one of our tent pegs.

At 3.40am, a camper drives his car down to the toilet block, slamming his car door, not once but multiple times and slamming toilet doors. I cannot believe people would wake others up by driving to the toilet.

No wonder a lot of camps make car drivers park outside the camp itself.

At 6am, it was time for everyone to wake up when the cleaners started talking so loudly you'd swear it was mid afternoon. And why you have to bang everything when you clean, is beyond me.

Even Julia was pissed off and that takes some doing.

Because we were awake anyway, our plan was to ride to Lake Bohinj. Waste of time at present as you couldn't see your hands in front of your face due to mist, so luckily we had sporadic WiFi.

At 9am it was still misty but brighter so we set out on a brilliant cycle trail which we joined from the side entrance to the camp.

We hoped by the time we'd cycled the 9kms to the lake, the sun would have broken through the mist.

Lake Bohinj when we first got there.

The view as we ate breakfast.

Our breakfast spot in the shade, as now it was quite warm.

Our faith was rewarded, (must be all that church photography). By the time we got there and had bought our milk, yoghurt and bananas, the sun was out and so were the views.

We sat on a shaded bench overlooking the lake, soaking up the view as we ate another delicious breakfast.

Julia was saying that her three things about Slovenia she wanted to see were,

The village in the hills yesterday

Lake Bohinj

Lake Bled

My three things were

Nice pastries in the supermarket

Crunchy cereal

Yoghurt and fruit for breakfast

We couldn't have timed things better as we beat most of the tourists and the weather played the game with some great shots. I totally get why Ju wanted to come here. The timing was perfect. If it had stayed as it was first thing, you wouldn't even know all that beauty was there.

Better keep in with the big guy for continued good luck with the weather!

We enjoyed a lovely time there, just sitting or looking and then moving to get a different angle for a shot. Pretty soon though, it was time to cycle back to camp as the rain was supposed to be closing in this afternoon, (as usual).

Met a lot of people just starting out on their days adventure, even though it was pushing on for midday.

Views on the trail from Lake Bohinj back to the campground at Bohiniska Bistrica. A very nice cycle trail.

Tent down "tout de suite" and off on the road for Lake Bled.

We wanted to try and get both of these beautiful places in today, as we are forecast thunderstorms and heavy rain all day tomorrow.

Bled was 23kms away and we jumped on the main road and blasted out the first half, averaging 25kmh.

Even though it was busy, we really only encountered one idiot.

With about thirteen kms to go, we joined a cycle trail which took us all the way to the lake.

Pushed our bikes down onto the grass area with the gorgeous coloured water calling us.

Didn't need much persuasion to get us in and we reckon it was about eighteen degrees. Very pleasant and the perfect way to end our second ride.

As with Lake Bohinj, the setting and scenery were spectacular and we once more enjoyed a lovely time taking some wonderful memories.

Briana, we talked about you and Jack and the time you spent here and can see how you loved it so much.

Once again after shooting from different positions, waiting for the sun to hit certain spots etc, we bought some food and took it down further along on the front and had our lunch, watching the various nationalities wander the lake front.

A photo especially for you Toff. Plenty of Bernese round here. We've noticed Salukis are also quite popular.

Our view while we ate lunch.

The sky was beginning to show what seems to be the norm round here. Dark clouds in the afternoon, with thunder and sometimes lightning.

That was our cue to hit the busy roads out of town. The traffic was moving so slowly, we were undertaking them on the footpath and soon heading out of town on the bike path.

We stopped for about ten minutes when we got a bit of rain to cover our bags with their rain covers and chuck our raincoats on.

We were cycling along in the village of Lesce when a friendly young chap pulls up beside me to comment that we both have the same helmet on.

We all laughed and he cycled off and we pulled into a Tus supermarket, (new one for us) and bought dinner.

Pork, sausages and rice with peas and carrots and the best thing was it was already cooked.

Here we waited for a thunderstorm to pass over and blogged as it did.

Not long after beginning again, we were checking directions and the same young cyclist was riding back from wherever he'd been and stopped to say hi.

We got talking and he asked about our trip. He does mountain bike enduro racing screaming downhill at some horrific speeds.

He was so amiable, we asked his name.

It was Jacob (pronounced Yacob).

We told him our names and where we were going and asked for his, so we could put him in the blog.

This intrigued him and he asked for the blog address.

So here it is Jacob, you are now famous.

That's if you haven't already read some of the blog and thought, "These guys have lost it" and thrown the address away.

Because the weather was still looking iffy, we just went on to Radovljica where we found the camp and a very nice, helpful receptionis.

Checked in, set up, shave, shower, but held off on washing as it's supposed to be bad weather tonight and tomorrow. Not sure if we'll even get on the road.

Sat in the tent with excellent wifi coverage and caught up.

The pork, sausages and vegetables with rice were absolutely delicious and cheap (two prime requirements), and already cooked so they were ready right when we wanted them.

Planned some more of our route. Next move is Ljubljana.

Let's see from there.

  1. What a fantastic day! Seems like the further you're getting away from the Italian border the more reasonable prices are becoming ... Hopefully that is the case. Now if you could only get a decent sleep without and loud nearby conversations, parties, arguments or car door slamming!
