7 October 2025 (mostly cloudy, sunny breaks, mild)

Up at 6.50am and had a cuppa. Read about the dreg who killed Dan Nganeko getting four years and two months as a sentence. Sometimes the judicial system astounds me with the leniency they bestow upon dregs who should receive terms that would keep them off the streets and away from innocent bystanders until they were old men. Of course, the Peter Dolan courts of law would make sure these dregs knew what consequences were. Very sad result today and I feel really sorry for the family. After ranting to Julia about it, I had to have a shave and a shower, just to bring my blood pressure down. Breakfast however, soon did the trick and at at 9am we hopped on the bus from literally over the road from Peg's house. Asked for two to Liverpool and offered the lady driver a twenty pound note. She had no change so said, "Don't worry about it love." So, free ride to Liverpool. It took an hour to get to the city, via the Queensway tunnel, built in 1934. Seventeen hundred men worked on...

Another good kip and up at 7am. Cuppa to start and eventually we ate breakfast. Today we are meeting the two Janes and Jo at Flissy's cafe Thurstaston, which means we'll ride along the Wirral Way. Vicky, (Jane and Jo's sister), will also be there, so that'll be nice. After our usual morning chatting, we all got out in the garden for an hour which was great as the sun was out and it was a nice temperature. At 10.15am we cycled off up the road, onto the Wirral Way and headed for Thurstaston, which is where we used to walk Tarza, a lifetime ago. It's a beautiful part of the Wirral and holds great memories for both of us. On the way as Julia was taking a photo, a lady walking four dogs began a conversation about Julia's baskets on her bike. That led onto her asking where we'd been and where we were from. She was a joiner and has a friend in Oz, who she goes to see. She wished us well and we rode on. Arrived at the cafe to find little Jane there and we sat talki...

3, 4 and 5 October 2025

3.10.25 Wet and cool 16 degrees  Woke this morning fully expecting to feel the full force of Storm Amy, which apparently is going to batter the UK. However, although drizzling from the early hours, it only remained that way for the rest of the day. Saturday is now "buckle up" time.  After a restful sleep, I was up at 6.30am and found Peg already up in the kitchen making a cuppa, so I joined her. Julia was probably another half hour behind as she has come down with a bit of a cold. Enjoyed our breakfasts, as always and before we slipped into our normal post breakfast chats in the lounge, we called Irena and Tony and received the latest news from their front. All good with them and Tony has sold another painting.  Teas and coffees followed throughout the morning, but at one point we thought we would catch the bus into Liverpool for another look around. No sooner had we decided, the cloud developed and the rain increased. Too miserable for wandering around.  Around 1pm ...

Happy Birthday Mum. Had you still been with us, you would have been ninety four today. After a good sleep, woke to a cloudy morning after the rain had now ceased. Breakfast was enjoyable and spent doing more talking and laughing. Late morning walk for Julia and I. Around Little Neston, different route than yesterday finishing off down by the marsh and back to Pegs.  Lunchtime on was basically sitting and talking about anything and everything. After not seeing each other for seven years, it's amazing how we've been able to find so much to talk and laugh about. It has been strange not having Andy here, but his name is always being raised in conversation, as is Mum's, and we realize how lucky we are to have had them in our lives. 2.10.25 After our usual cup of tea, followed by delicious breakfast and more chat with Peggy, we got the trusty steeds out for their first outing since the day we arrived. It was a perfect day for cycling, being cloudy with the sun breaking through oc...
